Launched in June 2022, the Free Soccer Initiative is Montana Surf's commitment to erasing every barrier that stands between a child and the game of soccer. No registration fees. No transportation excuses. No kid left out.
What We Provide
Three Ways We Remove Every Barrier.
Founded by Competitive Director Vanessa Davis—inspired by her own experience as a Latinx youth growing up in the Gallatin Valley—the initiative was born from a simple belief: the opportunity to benefit from youth sports must be available to all.
Full scholarship coverage
Registration and program fees are eliminated for qualifying families — no family turned away for inability to pay.
Transportation solutions
We arrange rides and carpools so that getting to practice is never the reason a kid cannot play.
Equipment access
Through Montana Soccer Soles—started by two 10-year-old Montana Surf athletes—we provide cleats, shin guards, and other essential gear.

Vanessa Davis was selected from more than 1,600 nominees nationwide to receive the Stack Sports MVP Award for her work founding the Free Soccer Initiative. It is a testament to the impact this program is making—not just in Bozeman, but as a model for youth sports organizations everywhere.
